Lost in the Church

in Bible, Teachings

(Luk 19:10 NIV) For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” What was lost? Adam and Eve were living in paradise. This paradise was lost.

Paradise: a very beautiful, pleasand or peaceful place that is perfect. (Gen 2:8 NIV) Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. There were four rivers that were watering the whole garden. Today we are out of paradise. There is water scarcity. Tamilnadu is asking Karnataka, Kerala for water. In the paradise there was plenty of water. (Gen 2:9 NIV) The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground–trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. All was well and perfect in the God created world.

Paradise Lost: When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit sin came into this world. Satan “It is better to reign in hell than to serve in heaven”.

How did sin come into this world?

  1. God did not create sin.
  2. It came into the universe through Satan.
  3. It came into this world by the sin of Adam and Eve.

1. God did not create sin:

(1Jn 2:16 NIV) For everything in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–comes not from the Father but from the world.
Doing what God told not to do and not doing what God has commanded to do is sin. God told them not to eat from one tree.

2. How sin entered into the Universe:

(Eze 28:2 NIV) “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “‘In the pride of your heart you say, “I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.” It came from pride. (Eze 28:17 NIV) Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
(Isa 14:13-14 NIV) You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”

How did Satan sin? (Jas 1:14-15NIV) but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Lust—Sin—Death
I will become like God—Breaking God’s will—-Death.
Why we say universe, because it did not mean earth only but even the heavens where God and His angels are dwelling.

3. How did sin enter the world?

(Rom 5:12 NIV) Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned–
Satan started with Eve and pushed Adam into the sin. (Rom 3:23 NIV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Happens in Capernaum. Tax collectors were among the most despised persons in this society. The money they collected was often partly a tax for Rome but also partly what they could extort for personal gain (cf. Luk_19:8) But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Zacchaeus: Jesus was a passing by Jericho. Luk_19:2 Zacchaeus, who was the chief tax-collector was a wealthy man. He had many people collecting taxes under him. He enjoyed his share of commission. He wanted to see Jesus. Wealth didn’t solve all problems in life. He wanted to see ‘how Jesus meets the needs of the people’. Luk_19:3 some people saw Jesus naturally. Many of them didn’t see. But they did not bother. The crowd stopped Zacchaeus from seeing Jesus. The crowd with whom you are travelling can stop you from seeing Jesus. The work you are engaged so busy all the time can keep you away from God. ‘Far from the madding crowd’. If you are in a crowd, come out of it. But he was short.

SHORT: Zacchaeus had wealth but was short. He was less than five feet. You have many things in life but something is short. You are not able to see Jesus normally. You don’t have a good job. You have pain in your hands. You have come here with problems. This ‘short’ made him to climb on the sycamore tree. He did two amazing things that others didn’t do. (Luk 19:4 NIV) So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. He ran in contrast to what any other government officer of his position would shy away to do. He climbed on the sycamore-fig tree. It is his secret place to see Jesus. John Calvin wrote, “Curiosity and simplicity is a sort of preparation for faith.”
Zacchaeus: (Luk 19:3 NIV) He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd.
(Luk 19:5 NIV) When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”

(Luk 19:9 NIV) Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. You have a reason to rise for the light of God has come upon you. His love, forgiveness has come upon you. Father is willing to accept you with open arms and hugs.
