Zacchaeus: Jesus was passing by Jericho. Luk_19:2 Zacchaeus, who was the chief tax-collector, was a wealthy man. He had many people collecting taxes under him. He enjoyed his share of commission. He wanted to see Jesus. Wealth didn’t solve all problems in life. He wanted to see ‘how Jesus meets the needs of the people’. Luk_19:3 Some people saw Jesus naturally. Many of them didn’t see. But they did not bother. The crowd stopped Zacchaeus from seeing Jesus. The crowd with whom you are travelling can stop you from seeing Jesus. The work you are engaged so busy all the time can keep you away from God. ‘Far from the madding crowd’. If you are in a crowd, come out of it. But he was short.
Zacchaeus had wealth but was short. He was less than five feet. You have many things in life but something is short. You are not able to see Jesus normally. You don’t have a good job. You have pain in your hands. You have come here with problems. This ‘short’ made him to climb on the sycamore tree. He did two amazing things that others didn’t do. (Luk 19:4 NIV) So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. He ran in contrast to what any other government officer of his position would shy away to do. He climbed on the sycamore-fig tree. It is his secret place to see Jesus. John Calvin wrote, “Curiosity and simplicity is a sort of preparation for faith.”
2. Set Back:
(Luk 19:3 NIV) He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. Whatever is covering or stopping you from seeing Jesus, throw it away.
(Luk 19:5 NIV) When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” Jesus knew his name. He knew the details about him. Jesus wanted to come into his house. It is his personal life. Jesus knows what all is to be repaired in your life. i.e Sis. Jaya witchcraft and deliverance.
4. Stand for Right:
(Luk 19:8 NIV) But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” i.e cheating in Loyola college canteen and then repaying the money.
(Luk 19:9 NIV) Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. You have a reason to rise for the light of God has come upon you. His love, forgiveness has come upon you. Father is willing to accept you with open arms and hugs.
